Pomegranates bear a lot of seeds and bottle gourds have vines. They are both symbols of a large number of offsprings in images of happiness. Chinese roses or ever-green roses bloom all year round and have won such titles as queen of flowers. The idiom originates from a poem by Du Fu of the Tang dynasty. In the poem, he described the beauty of the spring season by focusing on the profoundly intoxicating scent of peach blossoms that are either pink, scarlet, or even fiery, displaying the unique liveliness of spring to its fullness, which implies a wish for the long-lasting beauty of spring on earth.
